SUMMARY:Now on View 2: An Ephemeral Public Art Festival
DESCRIPTION:HCC Art Galleries’ Now on View returns to Ybor City with four hours of interactive public art\, poetry and dance in three venues – HCC Ybor\, Kress Contemporary and Hotel Haya. \nSix Tampa artists are participating in the free one-day public art festival\, contributing installations and performances that reflect on Tampa’s past\, present and future: \n1. Victoria Alvarez presents a temperature-sensitive poster print you must touch to see. Bring your friends and work together to reveal the underlying images\, exposed by your hands’ warmth\, in this personal tribute to Tampa’s LGBTQIA+ history. \n2. Tyler Gillespie and the FAX 727 collective invite Tampa residents to find the words to describe images from Tampa’s historical archives in this Tampa history-themed poetry alley. \n3. Jehoshaphat Jacinto celebrates Ybor City’s rich and diverse history with a street dance battle. How-to demos teach participants how to pop\, lock\, break and vogue. \n4. Erin Lekovic encourages Tampa audiences to participate in a new 7-10 minute site-specific play inspired by Ybor City. \n5. Working in collaboration with Amanda Gabaldon\, Emma Quintana invites Now on View participants to dance with disaster in a new art installation inspired by Tampa’s recent hurricanes and recovery efforts. \n6. Florist Kali Rabaut welcomes guests to step into her infinity mirror and explore how botanicals connect us to our past\, present and future. \nStart your day at HCC Ybor City Campus\, Performing Arts building (1411 E. 11th Ave.\, Tampa) where you can pick up a Now on View Guidebook featuring a map to all the art. \n\nCONTRIBUTORS Now on View is organized by the HCC Art Galleries and is made possible with the support of the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners. Our thanks also to our media sponsors\, Creative Loafing and Bay Art Files. Additional support comes from our project partners\, including the Arts Council of Hillsborough County\, HCC Foundation\, HCC Student Government Association\, Hotel Haya\, and Tempus Projects. \n\nCollapse description
