SUMMARY:National Ballet of Ukraine\, USA Tour 2024
DESCRIPTION:The National Ballet of Ukraine from the Taras Shevchenko National Opera and Ballet Theatre debuts its US tour\, performing across the East Coast in October 2024. This is their first US tour since Ukraine’s independence in 1991\, officially endorsed by the Ukrainian government. American audiences can experience this world-class ballet company directly from Kyiv. The production celebrates Ukraine’s rich cultural heritage with a full LED wall for 3D immersion\, featuring excerpts from ballets like “Giselle” and “Don Quixote\,” modern compositions\, and traditional folk dances. The tour also includes a special appearance by the Ukrainian/Canadian folk dance group\, Shumka. The National Ballet of Ukraine\, upholding the highest standards\, will bring 26 of its 150 dancers to the US.

DESCRIPTION:Forty years as a practitioner of the form\, an aged Breaker will set out far beyond shallow waters in search of “The Big Fish.” \nSkiff is a new\, evening-length work featuring Raphael Xavier and 2 guest dancers Micah “Spadez” Spader and TBD. Raphael Xavier conceived and directed Skiff in which he contextualizes his journey through the lens of Ernest Hemingway’s “The Old Man and the Sea\,” and Winslow Homer’s iconic painting “The Gulf Stream.” Created with original text and spoken word that is interwoven with Hemingway\, Xavier draws parallels between the fisherman’s search and his own journey to build a dance career utilizing the art form of Breaking. Skiff features elements practiced by Xavier\, merging storytelling\, spoken word\, and Breaking.

He holds a Ba (Hons) degree from the Rambert School and a postgraduate Diploma from The Place\, both educational programs in the UK. \nJason is the rehearsal and production director at the Rambert School. In addition to his teaching commitments\, Jason has created works for numerous renowned dance companies\, conservatoire and events\, including Black Box Dance Company\, Conny Janssen Danst\, FDR\, Hamburg Contemporary Company\, Balletboyz\, SpringBoard\, Royal Ballet School\, Stella McCartney\, De Beers\, Area Dance and more. His works have been nominated for Best Choreography in Denmark\, the Asian Arts Awards\, and the Amnesty International Freedom of Speech Awards\, which is a testament to his creativity and talent. \nAs a sought-after guest teacher at conservatoires worldwide\, he has taught at Juilliard\, The University of the Arts in Amsterdam\, University of Stavanger\, Royal Ballet School and Hamburg Contemporary Dance School and more. SUMMARY:USF SUMMER DANCE WEEK
DESCRIPTION:The USF Summer Dance Week is designed as a week-long series of intensive classes and workshops. \nEach day will be structured to have 3-4 classes in a variety of forms and styles – These will include African dance\, ballet\, contemporary/modern dance\, improvisation\, jazz\, tap\, commercial dance\, composition\, and more! \nAdditionally\, dancers will be learning new and repertory choreography that they will perform in the end-of-intensive performance. \nOpen to all dancers age 10+ with previous dance training. \nThe USF Summer Week of Dance faculty will include USF dance faculty\, alumni\, and invited guest artists. Current USF dance majors will serve as group mentors. \nAlthough there is not a formal audition process for this intensive workshop\, dancers will be required to submit a brief summary of your dance training and list your current dance teacher’s information (if applicable) during the registration process. The dancers will be split into two-three groups\, based on age\, technical ability\, and number of registered students. \nRegistration Link Coming Soon!
