DESCRIPTION:What is a Virtual Summit?\nA 1-Day mini-conference packed with live sessions for dance teachers!  \nOur Virtual Summit for Dance and Disability will feature 10+ live virtual sessions for dance teachers delivered across 5 different session blocks\, including movement sessions\, panel discussions\, and paper presentations on various topics and for different disability focused environments. \nFollowing the success of our Virtual National Dance Education Conferences in 2020 and 2021 and subsequent Virtual Professional Development Days\, and in line with our commitment to Justice\, Diversity\, Equity and Inclusion\, the National Dance Education Organization (NDEO) is excited to continue our Virtual Professional Development (PD) Days for Dance Teachers under a new name\, Virtual Summit! \nIn addition to our annual in-person NDEO Conference\, our Virtual Summits are an accessible professional development alternative for those who are not able to attend the in-person NDEO Conferences. \nWhat Is Included?\n\n10+ live virtual sessions for dance teachers delivered across 5 different session blocks\, including movement sessions\, panel discussions\, and paper presentations on various topics concerning Dance and Disability within Dance Education.\n0.5 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) earned after attending the full day of sessions.\nAccess to all recorded sessions for 1 month after the event\n\nAccessibility\nIf you have any access needs that are not covered below please note this on your registration. \n\nAll sessions will feature captioning provided by a CART (communication access real-time translation) specialist.\nA session in each time slot will feature ASL interpretation. SUMMARY:Derek Hough
DESCRIPTION:Derek Hough is best known for his time on the show Dancing with the Stars in which he won a Primetime Emmy Award. He also won the award in 2013 and 2018 for World of Dance. Hough’s dancing roots began early\, but he was sent to London to study dance with Corky and Shirley Ballas. Here\, he learned multiple forms of dance\, gymnastics\, and theater. In 2002\, Hough won the WDSF World Latin Championship\, as well as the New York Dance Alliance Outstanding Dance Award and LA Outstanding Dancer of the Year. Hough has worked with ice skaters\, made appearances in movies\, and has toured around the world in Derek Hough Live\, his first-ever solo tour. DESCRIPTION:Don’t Miss Legendary Dancer Carlos Acosta’s First Performance in the USA since 2018! \nOn Before is an intimate contemporary ballet for two dancers Carlos Acosta choreographed in 2010 as a tribute to his mother after her death. Acosta will dance with Laura Rodriguez from Acosta Danza\, the company he founded in Havana. On Before is the most personal work he has ever created. \nOn Before features choreography by world-renowned artists\, including Russell Maliphant\, Kim Brandstrup\, and Will Tuckett\, alongside Acosta’s choreography. \nBorn in Havana in 1973\, Acosta trained at the National Ballet School of Havana in Cuba. After winning a succession of awards\, including the Prix de Lausanne in 1990\, he went on to dance professionally with the world’s most prestigious companies\, with London’s Royal Ballet becoming his home. Acosta retired from classical ballet in 2016\, after 28 years.
