About
Jennifer Harman is a US Navy disabled veteran and lifelong artist, earning her PhD in Mind-Body Medicine and Applied Psychophysiology, with concurrent board certifications in Integrative Wellness Coaching, Stress Management Education, and Clinical & Applied Hypnosis. Her research, education, and work in the community all align with advocating for the arts to serve as an agent for healing the mind and body. Her most recent publication is a scholarly article, titled: Moving Beyond Trauma: Using the Process of Learning Choreography as a Tool to Aid in Post-9/11 US Veteran Reintegration
Jennifer is the founder of the Center for Integrative Arts & Wellness, a holistic approach to healing through mindfulness-based interventions and arts engagement practices to aid in restoring physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual components of health. A Tampa native, Jennifer has over 40 years of stage, studio, and instructor experience. Her foundation is in all genres of dance, with an extensive background in Luigi Jazz technique and philosophy. Highlights from her career include performing with LA-based professional dance company, DIAVOLO in The Veterans Project: “A Long Journey Home” and subsequent projects; performing in Paris, FR as a National All Star Performer with Universal Dance Association (UDA); and being a featured performer in Super Bowl XXXV. Jennifer was an original company member of the Tampa Children's Ballet Theater and an original member of the Bijoux de Burlesque Dance Company, where she was a featured dancer and choreographer. She also developed and led dance teams for three Semi-Pro Football teams. Jennifer is a collaborator with the Straz Center for the Performing Arts, a member of the International Arts + Mind (IAM) Lab Village with Johns Hopkins University, a member of the Performing Arts Medicine Collaborative (PAMC) at USF, and is serving in her 9th term on the Veterans Advisory Board for the US House of Representatives 12th Congressional District of Florida. She also plays an active role in VetArtSpan, a national initiative of the Creative Forces®: NEA Military Healing Arts Network, is a collaborator with the UF Center for Arts in Medicine, and works closely with the Creative Arts Team at James A. Haley VA to engage veterans with the arts.
